I know when I'm lying to myself, deluding myself. I assumed, wrongly, every person acquired this simple insight by their teens. As the years have passed, it is still quite surprising to encounter an endless stream of walking dead that do not possess a basic understanding - or desire - to be truthful with themselves, let alone honest in their interactions with other people.

Doubling-down is the tactic of the modern day; personal responsibility to claw out of the mire is furthest from any one person's consideration, apparently.

You speak of a quality of a dying society.... Sometimes I work hard, sometimes I relax too much. A further interesting point I'd make is, that it is up to you to create something new, at your own pace. You are capable of creation.

Have kids, make new stuff.

I would like to emphasize "at your own pace." If you're the typical millennial (like myself) that has struggled to get off your ass and try new things (again, myself) the most important part is to go at whatever pace is comfortable for you to start. From there, do it YOUR way. Yes learn from others, but ultimately just do it in whatever way works best for you. It worked for me. After a few years, the nervous chatter in your mind will wear thin and you'll find yourself trying new things without even thinking. Competence brings confidence. Just do shit so that you're not as worthless as the guy next to you.

Good advice, but generally, it is also a good idea to accelerate over time. And always, NEVER use the excuse of "at my own pace" to not actually get off your arse.
